1998 Chrysler Sebring Coupe, 2.0 DOHC, 118000 miles, A/T, A/C. I am getting this light brown slimy goo in my reservoir that attaches to the inside and outside of the rubber hoses and floats on top of the coolant. What strikes me as strange is that it does'nt seem to mix with the coolant as the coolant appears to be clean green. I checked the oil and A/T fluid and they appear normal in color and appearance. I am aware of the fact that this particular engine has a history of problems with the head gasket leaking and mine does leak. Does this sound like it could be a case of oil getting sucked into the coolant due to a defective headgasket, or maybe something more serious? I first noticed this gew about a month ago & I cleaned the reservoir. Today I had a radiator hose blow and I changed the hoses and t-stat. I noticed the gew in the reservoir and cleaned it again. It has been using quite a bit of oil & it's not blowing it out the tailpipe. I thought it was just blowing it out of the headgasket. (It's leaking at the corner pretty bad) The check engine light was on and I pulled 4 powertrain codes off of it. 0122 Throttle Position Sensor, 0118 & 0117 Engine Temp. Sensor high and low voltage & 0137- 02 Sensor.Any help is greatly appreaciated.

go get a pressure tester for 18 bucks and see if the rad is leaking..easy as eating a snicker bar.

the tps should be set at factory voltage.the ones i know of adjust by 2 screws on it,and u move it slightly and the voltage changes..you need to have a volt guage to test, and set,and know which wires are which...and u need to know the facotory voltage it should be at....its usually 1.00volts or so

02 sensors get thrown off alot..its prbly from the other problems.fix that last if need be done..i doubt

et sensor check to see if your fans are coming on...may be time for a new one..i dunnno how to check it exept for get car hot and wait....

that brownish goo is rust....in its early stages.
but if u have oil floating then.....it may be oil also in there..
you can usually see smoke in the rad or smell the exhaust in the rad

The brown goo in your coolant is definately an indicator of a cracked head/blown head gasket. I bet the stuff floating on top is brown and bubbly looking isn't it? Try to use Bars Leak Copper Radiator and Engine Block Sealant, you can get it at auto parts stores for around $5. Flush your cooling system out GOOD, don't skimp on this step. Pour the bars leak into your radiator (or take a hose off if your radiator doesn't have a cap- don't pour into your oveflow that would be useless) Fill your cooling system back up with clean water and drive your car for about 30 minutes to get it hot and then let it cool down enough to drain your cooling system without getting burnt. Make sure the water drains out of the block so the sealer can harden and let it sit overnight or all day. Then flush your system again real good and refill with coolant and it is done.

This is an alternative to replacing your head or head gaskets, it's definately worth a try. And for only $5 cool.gif
