I have a 2002 f350 ford truck with a 7.3 turbo power stroke diesel engine. This is how this problem started, I was driving down the highway and my check engine light came on and i wasnt far from my house so I turned around and parked the truck and said to myself i will check it in the morning. The next morning i started the truck and the check engine light wasnt on so I was going to let the truck warm up and i was going to try it down the road. I was standing beside of the truck while it was running and all of the sudden the engine started loping and it went from loping to the engine started idling down and down till it finally just shut down and still no engine light and tried to pull codes and no codes. I checked all fluids which was good and I figured the way the truck did it was the fuel filter was stopped up. I changed the fuel filter out and it was dirty but the fuel bowl had diesel fuel in it. I then tried to start the engine again and the engine will turn over and it acts like it wants to start but it wont. I am kinda green on a diesel engine but what would be the next item to check on this beast. Thanks

Hey Tech on this powerstroke diesel the fuel filter was completely stopped upped. I have bleeded the air out of a tractor diesel before by going to each injector and bleeding them but these injectors are under the valve covers. Also when you trun the ignition on you can here the fuel pump running and it runs for about 15 seconds and stops. Then you can turn the switch off and turn it back to on and the fuel pump will start again and run for about 15 seconds again is this how it suppose to do. I have looked around on the engine to see if there is a place where you can check the fuel pump pressure but havent located one yet. I sure could use some help. Thanks again.

Fuel pressure test, F-Series:
Remove the 1/8-inch pipe plug from the top front of the right head. Install Gauge 0-1.1 MPa (0-160 psi) Bar 014-00761 or equivalent. Run engine at idle and check for leaks from the line to the gauge. Measure pressure with a full load on the engine. If pressure is not within 310-552 kPa (45-80 psi) , replace fuel filter. Retest and if still below specification, replace right head check valve, which is located on the rear of the right head between the fuel inlet line and the head.

hey folks I am appreciating every piece of information I can get on here trying to help me getting this diesel running. I have changed the fuel filter out and relly wasnt for sure if the electric fuel pump was working. I took the fuel filter back out of the fuel bowl housing and drain all of the diesel fuel out. I left the top off of the fuel filter to see where the fuel comes into the fuel bowl and also make sure there was some pressure there with the ole finger over the hole deal. I got my buddy to turn the switch on and I took a diesel bath I will say this its getting good fuel pressre and flow. I want to put a comment in here also a friend of mine told me to do with gas. If you want to run the diesel engine for about 30 seconds just to see if the engine will run. You can take a rag about the size of a hand towel and wet it with gas not dripping wet and take you cover off of your air filter housing and hold the rag close to the air filter tube and get someone inside of the truck and start it. This will make the diesel run and it is running off of the vapors from the gas rag and I was told it was better doing this than using staring fluid to keep you engine running. I did this it made the diesel engine run fine till I runned out of vapors off of the gas rag. I have still got problems some where though and all more info I get from yall I appreciate it. Thanks A bunch also are there a web site i might can go to to get more info I tried autozone and it wasnt to helpful
