The previous owner told me he thought the car needed a fuel pump. Car runs fine for 30-45 min. He said engine would try to quit and seemed to be starving for fuel. I turned car off after about 30 min and when I started the car again it would barely run. He also said fuel line would get hot under car. I can hear fuel pump run when it does this. Could it be a coil pack instead of fuel pump?

Check spark output of the coils if you think that is the problem.....check fuel pressure, if you think that is the problem...

Thanks for the reply. I am not very good at trouble shooting. I have a fuel pressure guage that will fit a schrader valve, but this car does not have one. I would appreciate any ideas on where to test fuel pressure.

If it doesn't have a schraeder valve, you need a special setup to test the pressure, unfortunately.....

could also ave a vac leak causing the same problem....

Is there a check engine light on?

you can make T- connection to hook up your furl pressure gauge. hearing the sound of the fuel is also an indication of pump going south, pump is working hard to produce pressure

I would be interested in learning where you would put that "T" fitting....

A brand new fuel pump makes noise....

One thing I would recommend first, is replace the fuel filter to see if the problem goes away...

I got a gauge from AutoZone, connected it at fuel pump. The pressure would go below 10psi. Will be changing the pump. Thanks!
