I have a few air cond questions. 1) how cold are air cond seats suppose to get. the dealer said only suppose to get 14 degrees cooler and everything check out fine. on real hot days you can barely feel it. heated seats work fine in winter.

2) what causes a musty smell from the air cond when on auto and even worse when air starts to mix with warm air to maintain set temp. Is there anyway to get rid of this? like a disinfectent that can be sprayed into vents or something else? is this something that would be covered under a bumper to bumper factory warranty?

Thanks in advance for all the help you provide.

I believe that you have a cabin air filter in your vehicle that may need changing. Not sure on the location but should be in owners manual. The air cooled seats are about right if they were checked for the drop. You'll not feel the cool as much as you feel the heat in the winter.

no cabin air filter. what about these sprays that i read about where you spray into vents and air intakes and it is suppose to kill mold, mildew, etc. and make air smell good again. Do these products work? thanks again

Those chemicals do work, but using them means you're treating the symptom instead of killing the disease.

The odor could be a leaking evaporator.

Come on Tools......I doubt it's a leaking evaporator.....a leaking evaporator would cause restricted air flow due to dirt sticking to the fins or no A/C, neither of which is his complaint....

it's probably bacterial growth on the evaporator....that's why a lot of vehicles have "afterblow" modules.....this will cause the blower motor to continue to run with the key off, to dry up the evaporator.....

If there is no dirty cabin filter, you really have to access the fins of the evaporator, and spray something like Lysol on it.....

Wonder if the drain for the a/c plenum? If it is plugged, stale water will sit in the plenum and cause a moldy smell. Also a leaking evaporator would lose refrigerant thereby rendering the a/c inoperative.

The musty smell is caused by a mildew -type growth growing in the AC evaporator.
Ford makes a product called"AC Disodorizer", part# F6AZ-19G210-AA or YN-18. Follow the instructions included in the packaging.

TSB 05-9-22

05/16/05

A/C CHEMICAL ODOR

LINCOLN:
2003-2005 Aviator

ISSUE
Some 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviators may exhibit a chemical odor (freezer type smell) from the A/C system when driving 30 minutes or more at highway speeds. This condition only occurs in hot, humid climates and is due to condensation freezing/thawing on the front evaporator core.

NOTE :THIS TSB DOES NOT ADDRESS A/C MILDEW ODOR.

ACTION
If the chemical odor is verified, remove the refrigerant containment switch, mounted on the front thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). Replace with a low pressure cycling switch and jumper harness supplied in the kit. Refer to the installation sheet included in the kit.

NOTE :THE A/C SYSTEM MUST BE RECOVERED PRIOR TO CONTAINMENT SWITCH REMOVAL.
