ive got a ford truck straight6 90 model. at first start up(cold) the truck with crank and run smooth for approximately 2 seconds then it start to choke and cuts off, every time. the only way to get past this is to keep accelerator to floor until it warms up, then it will idle smoothly but has a lazy throttle response. ive disconnected the egr valve, and installed new plugs, new fuel filter and cleaned the carbon out of the throttle body. anyone know anything else to try? think it could be the throttle position sensor or mass airflow sensor?

Try this site and see if you can get the codes. Could be either or both but we need the codes before you start shelling out money for parts. You need to hook the EGR back up but you might want to pull it and clean it and the ports good. Then see what you have. You did go back with OEM plugs I hope?? Have plug wires ever been changed??

Is it carbourated or fuel injected? If carborated, it could have foregin material in the float..ive seen this problem before...happens often when changing the fuel filter, and a piece of the hose will be torn off on the side going to the carb, thus getting stuck in the float and causing all sorts of problems...lots of smoke?? If it was a MAF problem, the worst would be poor gas mileage and loss of power, not sputtering...egr problems will cause engine trouble codes in the ECM (if equipped), knocking and again, poor gas mileage, not sputtering/choking of the engine. Checked air filter? Is it clogged? Fuel filter clogged could aslo be a possibility...dstrick32 knows much more than I but I doubt it will have anything to do with your wires or the type of plugs you used...unless you forgot to gap them correctly...or at all?
